Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is a U.S. program providing temporary protection from deportation and work authorization to nationals of countries facing crises like armed conflict or disasters. To qualify, individuals must be from a designated country, have been in the U.S. since the designation, and meet other criteria. TPS is temporary, usually lasting 6 to 18 months, and must be renewed if conditions in the home country don't improve. It does not lead to permanent residency or citizenship.
